Vampire Facial® downtime is usually a few days to a week. At first your face looks and feels sunburned, then it turns dry and flaky as it heals. You can go back to work the same day and wear makeup after a day.
Plenty of articles promise you’ll look like yourself in a day or three. We’d rather you plan for the real week, and know that the result you’re after builds over the following months.
Your Vampire Facial Recovery Time, Day by Day
You heal at your own pace, so read this as the usual week, not a promise for your face. On darker skin, the treated area may look darker rather than red at first.
| Day | What you’ll see and feel | What to do | What to skip |
| The day of your visit | Red and warm, like a sunburn, with some swelling or burning. A little pinpoint bleeding during treatment is normal and passes. | Leave the PRP on your skin for several hours before you wash. Sleep on a fresh pillowcase. | Makeup. Workouts and sweating. Heat: hot showers, saunas, a blow dryer on your face. |
| The next day | Still pink and a little tender. | Wash with a gentle cleanser and moisturize. After 24 hours, mineral makeup with clean brushes. Work as usual. | Exfoliants, scrubs, and strong products. |
| Days 2 and 3 | Dry, flaking skin as it sheds faster than usual. Some tightness, itching, or roughness is common. | Your regular moisturizer. Your own skin care from 48 hours, once your skin isn’t irritated. A fresh pillowcase each night. | Exfoliants, scrubs, glycolic acid, and strong products until 72 hours. Direct sun for at least 3 days, ideally 10. |
| Days 3 to 7 | More shedding and dryness, then it settles by about a week. If the skin near your eyes was treated, small bruises can last 3 or 4 days. | Retinoids from 72 hours. Makeup over any bruise. Sunscreen, SPF 30 or higher, every day, reapplied every 2 hours outdoors. | Direct sun. |
| The second week | The pink and peeling have usually passed. | Keep up the daily sunscreen. | Long hours in strong sun, through day 14. |
The redness, swelling, dryness, and flaking are your skin healing, the kind of short-lived reactions lasting up to 7 days. Redness that spreads instead of fading, a fever, or a blister is different: that’s a reason to call.
Planning a Vampire Facial Around Work, Weekends, and Events
Because you can work the same day, a weekday visit works. Book later in the week, and the pinkest days fall on your weekend. We see patients Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 4 PM.
With vampire facial downtime of a few days to a week, and two weeks to keep low on sun, an event or photos go before your appointment or at least a week after it. A beach trip, a lake weekend, or an outdoor event in strong sun goes more than two weeks after.
The week before, run a quick check. Your vampire facial waits until these have cleared:
- A tan, recent sun, or a sunburn
- A cold sore or a rash on your face
- A skin infection
- Pimples that are painful, full of pus, or deep
Spot one? Call us as soon as you do. Every booking needs a card on file. Moving it more than 24 hours ahead has no fee, and inside 24 hours there’s a $25 fee.
The Vampire Facial Aftercare Instructions You Take Home
Before you leave our Longview clinic, someone on our team walks you through your aftercare sheet. You sign to say it was explained, and you take a copy home. It’s part of what a vampire facial visit involves, because we’d rather you know what’s coming than be surprised. Following the plan helps you avoid an infection and get the most from your treatment.
For soreness, the sheet asks you to use acetaminophen rather than ibuprofen-type pain relievers. If you take one of those, a blood thinner, or a daily aspirin for your health, don’t stop it on your own. Tell our team before your visit, and we’ll answer your question about it. Blood thinners, low-dose aspirin included, are one reason microneedling may not suit someone.
At 48 hours, your own skin care means the personalized plan from your first aesthetic visit.
“I was well informed with what they were going to do for me that day and what to expect in the next few days.” (Carla F., Google review)

When Vampire Facial Results Show, and How a Series Runs
The week after your visit isn’t the verdict. Results come gradually as your skin makes collagen. You may see some change within a few weeks, and the full result usually takes several months.
We recommend 3 to 5 treatments, about 4 weeks apart, and most people who get results have 3 or more. Three runs about two months from first visit to last; five runs about four. Each visit means another small blood draw, an everyday part of care here, and a few more days of healing. How many vampire facial treatments you need is set with you at your first visit, from your skin and your goals.
How long does a vampire facial last? Results fade gradually as your skin keeps losing collagen with age. Sun protection and not smoking help, and a yearly maintenance visit is common. So your vampire facial before and after is measured in months, across a series.
Vampire Facial Side Effects That Are Normal, and When to Call Us
Most side effects show up soon after treatment and pass. Normal healing can include:
- Redness, dryness, and tightness, or rough skin
- Itching, peeling, or crusting
- Discomfort, burning, or a little bruising or bleeding
Call us if you notice:
- Itching, burning, or tingling around your lips, often the first sign of a cold sore, and sooner for any blister near your eyes
- Skin that’s painful, red, swollen, and warm, or redness that grows instead of fading
- Swollen lymph nodes
- A patch that stays darker or lighter after the redness has gone; darker skin carries more risk of this, one more reason for daily sunscreen
- Anything else that worries you
If the red area spreads quickly, or you get a fever or chills, get medical care right away.
When you call us at 903-212-0556, our clinical team reviews your symptoms and tells you the next step. For severe or possibly life-threatening symptoms, seek emergency care right away.

Common Vampire Facial Recovery Questions
Can I get a vampire facial if I get cold sores?
Yes, you can get a vampire facial if you get cold sores, just not during an outbreak. Tell the team before your visit: providers may consider medicine to help prevent a flare-up, and that’s decided with you. A cold sore flare-up afterward is one of the less common reactions, so call at the first tingle around your lips.
How should I get my skin ready for a vampire facial so recovery goes smoothly?
Getting ready for a vampire facial starts a few weeks ahead. A steady skin care routine for 2 to 4 weeks can help, and you may be asked to pause retinol or tretinoin for a few days. Protect your skin from the sun, since a tan or sunburn means waiting. Tell the team about any blood thinner, low-dose aspirin included, and about isotretinoin, an acne medicine.
